Security

People put a lot of time and energy into obtaining security.

They build walls, fences, weapons and alarms.

There is Homeland security and Social security.

They look for security in their finances and security in their own power.

But one thing I have discovered over and over again in my life is that the only security I can be sure of is that found in Jesus Christ

.

Yesterday our house was broken into. I was gone for a little under and hour to pick up our kids from school and came home to find our doors open and our house ransacked. They stole my lap top I had saved for months to buy. They took my son Kallans referee money he had worked so hard for. They took my jewelry and an Ipod- all of which were gifts. They also took 3 pairs of diamond earrings the girls aunt had bought for them and 2 jade necklaces I had purchased in Guatemala to give to the girls one day on their Gotcha Days when they were older.

All gone- just like that.

After the police left we spent the evening processing through all of our emotions. Feelings of violation, fear, shock, anger, sadness, loss, thankfulness ( that no one was hurt) and appreciation (for the friends who called to check on us and for our precious pastor who prayed for us over the phone).

But the thing that meant the most was the verse the Lord brought to my mind over and over again :

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. Matthew 6:19

All of those things they took were just that- things. We have all that we really need. We have each other, we have friends, we have our church but most of all- we have Jesus.

And that is something no robber could ever take.

Aleigha and Mya had a hard time falling asleep last night because as they lay in the dark waiting for sleep the fears kept creeping in. At one point Mya walked into the living room, leaped into my arms and said “Mommy, will you pray with me? I am scared.”

And I knew we were going to be okay.

I knew without a doubt that because we know where our REAL security lies- in Jesus, everything was going to be alright.

This world is full of evil. No matter how many walls we build or security systems we put in- nothing can change that. But understanding that security is not found between 4 walls, in our checkbook, or in our things gives me REAL peace. Knowing it's in you Jesus- and that is all we truly need.

Lord I thank you for your protection over us. I praise you Lord for the reminder that as long as we have you- we have it all. I pray Lord for the individuals who broke into our home Lord. They need you. They need the hope that only you can give. Lord and I pray that they truly listen to the words to those Christian songs on the Ipod they took. I pray Lord that you use the sermons I downloaded into my laptop to reach them. I pray Lord for the other families whos homes in our area’s were robbed also and I thank you God for these reminders that you are more than enough.

Amy - I am so sorry that happened to.

This happened to me when I was a little girl and didn't know Jesus. It was a very scary time in my life.

I praise God that you know your full security rests in His hands!

I praise God that no one was hurt and that you are all going to be OK!

I praise God that NO ONE and NOTHING can steal His love away from us!

I praise God that your heart is focused on what really matters - Him and Him alone being enough!

Sending big hugs and prayers for protection around you all today!

Love,
Jill

Offering up prayers for your family as you deal with this loss. What a terrible thing to have to deal with. I'm so glad you have the right perspective-It's all stuff! He is our only true security and peace. Praying your children experience peace as they sleep in the days ahead also.

Amy,
I'm so sorry that this happened to you and things that were for your children were taken. I have found that every time I experience spiritual joy, in your case bringinig home your new baby, the enemy comes in and tries to shake my faith and cause doubt in God's faithfulness, but God was in control even in this. Your family was protected no one was hurt and your obedience and unwavering faith in the Lord's provision will be blessed. I will pray for your family.

So sorry that your family is facing this frustrating loss.
Your outlook and attitude are such a blessing and I'm so thankful that you all were safe...and that you realize that they didn't touch your real treasure at all!
Praying His peace for each of you as you process this experience.

So. So. Sorry.

Oh my ...

About 20 years ago, our home was broken into. Things passed down from my Grandpa were stolen. It was definitely the "sentimental" things that hurt the worst ... the things that insurance just cannot replace.

I know the fears ... the feeling of being violated ... while at the same time the thankfulness of knowing that your family was protected from harm.

Praying for you all!!

Oh Amy!
Sweet friend. While I hate to hear that something happened in broad daylight no less like it did...You have it all right. You know the source of security and you are STEADFAST in Him.
I love you friend. You are a treasure.
Praising God for keeping you all safe. Your children are the real treasures!
May He redeem and restore EVERY single thing that was taken from you and repay you tenfold.
Love,
Holly

Oh Amy!! I am sooo sooo sorry!! :( I immediately wanted to make a button to raise money to buy you a laptop and replace your jewelery and such, but I assume you have insurance?

Anyway I know it's the sentimental things that hurt the most - the things that CAN'T be replaced. :(

I am so sorry. We had an 'attempted' break in a few years ago and even THAT upset me for some time. :( I can't imagine how upsetting this must be for you.

((((((((((hug)))))))))) Love you guys a bunch!!

I'm so sorry this has happened to your family! It is very violating to have this happen. As hard to deal with as that is, you do have the right perspective about earthly and heavenly treasures. Cling to the verse in your post! It's so true! I'll be praying for your little ones to feel safe and secure.

I am so sorry this happened to you and your family. But I have to admit I am so happy to see Mya's reaction.
You are doing everything right when your children know what to do and where to go in good and bad times!
Hugs to all of you.

Oh Amy, my heart is broken for you and your sweet family. I pray for safety often as I fear that these desperate times will bring even more desperate situations. However, like you, I find comfort in knowing that God will take care of me and my family. My Grandfather passed away about 9 months ago and my Grandmother has been "temporarily" living with my dad. In these last months many thefts have occurred on her property and we are concerned about her returning home. I pray that these people find direction and that they will be humbled by their wrongdoings so that they may know God. HUGS and PRAYERS to you all.

I am so sorry Amy... the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago... house ransacked and all computers, televisions, cameras, money and ids game systems gone. True violation of that sense of security in your own home.

Praying that you find some peace and that the police are able to track down who did this and you are able to reclaim some of the things that were taken.

I have a real peace though... "things" can be replaced. Glad you are all ok!!

(((HUGS)))

Oh Amy, I am now just reading this post and am sick to my stomach, literally. I guess the first thing that came to my mind was that nobody was home. I can't even begin to imagine how violating that must have felt, since all that has ever happened to has is have our car broken into. Ughh how sicko. But you are right, our secrity lays with Jesus and him alone and he is all we need. Oh I am so thankful right now that your family is safe and sound. Love you so much.

Amy that prayer at the end just really amazed me. How easy it is not to think about the person who did it, but concerned about you instead. How amazing that they are brought to your attention in prayer by robbing a house.

I can't really say I know what it feels like because I really don't. We live in an area that's supposed to be the safest place to live in the country and especially way out in the countryside, it is.

However, there is still evil around and I think that's something for everyone to deal with.

Thank you for your inspiring words.

Being a kid, that is my biggest fear. I've had HORRIBLE night terrors over such a thing. The only thing that got me through it was His Word. Have Mya and Aleigha read this (or you read it to them) it really brought me the biggest of healing, and we've never even been broken into! It's Psalm 27. I love you all and thank you for your awesome perspective on things!

I'm glad you weren't home when the theives broke in. I was just discussing this about earthly treasures to my husband today. Praying for your family. WOuld love to help with your sons funds. Do you have a P.O box set up? Also, just a check list- for future reference.. Never leave your pocket book with keys, door openers, etc,.. in your car- ALWAYS lock your doors and never leave valuables out for theives to find. We have several lock boxes around our house- securely in place along with a GIANT gun safe-- that took 4 men to load into our home.. (i would love to see 1 try and carry it out)... Here's hoping we can help your son out!

Amy, I am so very sorry that this happened to you and your family. Our home was also broken into just about a month ago, and it surely left us rattled. We dealt with all of those emotions you mentioned....and for quite a while, I must say. I have to admit I had to have some conversations with God about being willing to forgive the perpetrators. Your perspective and prayers for those who broke into your home certainly convicted me of my attitude. I pray your sweet children will feel the security and confidence they have in Jesus, and that you all will continue to be protected.
