"Look mommy- their family is just like ours- black, brown and white!"
~ Kaden, age 4

And just so ya know, I am choosing to focus on the cuteness of this- and not the fact that he compared us to a herd of cattle. ;0)

Oh, that's great! Love the little guys' commentary on race. Mine compared me to a candy cane, back in November... http://www.americanmamacita.com/blog/tiny-talk-tuesday-nov-30-2010/

Hi Amy

I'm wondering if you could recommend any good books to educate myself on the orphan crisis and in addition anything specific to orphans in Ethiopia. God has been working in my life for the past 12 months and has created a passion in me for orphans that I can't deny. I feel him specifically calling me to Ethiopia. I'd like to start building a good understanding and foundation of knowledge. I'm reaching out to a few blog people I follow and really respect to get a few recommendations. Thanks so much! Gina.

so adorable! i went to target with my 4 kiddos last week and an incredibly rude worker there started yelling at my daughter for climbing up into one of those cart attachments where kiddos sit. she was climbing into one while i was putting the baby in another cart and she said "WHERE is your mother?!" and i turned to see what was up and said "i'm right here"/ she looked me up and down and said "she's YOUR daughter" and i said "yup" and walked off with my 4 kiddos- white, black and brown. it really unnerved me... sometimes i can shake it off and other times it's hard.
anyways... THEN about 5 mins later as this is all still rolling around in my head we pass a mom and her son who is darker than she is and she smiles at us and tells him "look at that... they look like our family... a rainbow of beautiful colors". and i thought WOW... i SO needed that!! :)
i hope my kids grow to constantly see that we are not an odd, different family, but surrounded by so many other rainbow families... even if those families happen to be cattle! :)
