Today at the Manna Feeding Center the bible lesson was on 'serving'. After the children were fed their lunches we had an opportunity to serve them in a way that many had never experienced before.
Due to the amazing response we have had towards purchasing shoes for these kiddo's we knew we needed to start getting them all sized for their new shoes. The thing is, we also knew it would be hard to take off their shoes and trace their feet to size them- while ignoring the sores, dry skin and unkept nails. So to go along with our lesson we demonstrated an act of serving- by washing their feet, clipping their nails and rubbing lotion into their dry little feet... letting each one know how precious they are and how much they matter.
After the children left I got to thinking... I don't believe it was a coincidence that little girl rubbed her feet a few days ago in front of me allowing me to see the pain her feet were in. I don't think it was a coincidence that it bothered me so much that I wrote a blog post about it, and I don't think it was a coincidence that so many of you stumbled across that post and were moved to act.
Because, I don't believe we serve a God of coincidences.
This morning in my devotional book I read these words... (not by coincidence)
"God loves to use things that we consider to be insignificant, like Moses' rod which parted the Red Sea, or Davids sling-shot that brought down a giant, or a boy's lunch that fed a multude..."
or perhaps in a single pair of worn out, too small shoes- to make Himself known...
And I stand in awe.
Lord, thank you for who you are and for how much you care about every little detail of our lives. Forgive us when we fail to trust you with our every need... and forgive us when we let opporunities pass us by to make you known.
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns! Isaiah 52:7
Thank you again to the many of you who gave. Because of you and how you chose to act, these children saw Him.
For more information on the work we do at Eagles Nest you can check out our amazing co workers blog here: We love you Pedro and Felis and we are so grateful to be serving by your side. Thank you for your wonderful example, insight and hearts. We couldn't do this without you!!

Love this! I totally missed the need....between Elaina's surgery and homecoming after a MONTH of being in a hospital in another state to preparing for another year of homeschooling and things the Lord is preparing for us to do even now...I have been behind! But God is NEVER behind! He supplied and was glorified! I love His ways! Such beautiful feet! Thanks for sharing. Thanks for going and thanks for ALLOWING so many of us to partner with you in a small way!
Blessings,
Holly

Beautiful post. Thank you for sharing. What a precious act of service...I am not sure who was blessed more by that experience!
Beautiful pictures Amy. What a loving way to serve these sweet children.
Wah! Love the photos of these sweet children being tended so lovingly. Can't wait to see them with their new shoes. :)
Lots of tears. Thank you for being you. Much love!
Amy it is really late here yet, God asked me to come visit you and pray. As I read your post I cried and found myself thanking God over and over again for the humility you are displaying to every person around you. Your family has already given more than they could ever dare to ask. You have expressed something they longed to believe - that they matter ALOT! You have redeemed their hope. GOD IS SHINING through your family and I'm so blessed to be on this journey with you! I love you for all eternity and thankful to call you sister and friend! I too stand in awe!

Now I know I did not come across this by chance.
Matthew 22:37-40
37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
If only we all would do every thing for the Glory of God;
"Look into your heart and you will find the answer"
" I AM THIRD"
Amy,
How amazing a thing like Facebook can reestablish old friendships. I am in awe of who God has called you and yours to be in His service. What a blessing for me to be able to see you in action miles away. You and yours will be in our prayers as you serve. Blessings upon blessings Kim
Oh Amy, this is soooo precious to me! Praising God for little feet and SHOES today:)!
Showing children that they matter is the most tangible way to see God at work. I love this! Keep up the good work Blocks!
I cannot even type...I just weep.
Thank you, Thank you.
I love this so much! All those lovely little feet getting much needed shoes! Praise Jesus!
That is SO cool! I know it feels really good to get my feet rubbed and sure they were SO thankful!! :)
Those SWEET little piggie toes (that's what we call toes at our house). How beautiful indeed. What amazing work you are doing and what an amazing LOVE you are sharing. Thank you for sharing it with US as well.
thank you for posting this! I can't wait to show the kids tomorrow!
LOVE this. Literally being the hands of Christ. Beautiful.
I shared this with my older girl scouts yesterday, and the 7th graders started thinking about seeing if your group would benefit from something they could make. We are wondering if you could email me so we can figure out what other needs there might be.

Amy: Somehow I just knew when I read the words "serve" and then when you talked about how everyone had given towards the shoes..I just knew what you all had done. I know those children felt so special and so loved..The saying "no one knows how much we care until we show we care" speaks such volumes and you showed it here.

So precious!
I sent you an email about the shoes, I hope you've been able to see it.
Many blessings to you and your family as you begin another week!
Love this. Shoes impacted me greatly while we were in Haiti and we did a shoe drive to fill the need, but this is so amazing that you took the time to not just supply shoes, but care for the feet too. Thank you for living out the gospel.
tears in my eyes. not only are you amazingly (with the help of blog readers and friends) meeting their physical need of shoes, you are meeting the very core of their heart- the need to be loved, feel worthy of human kindness and compassion. my heart is just bursting looking at these pictures and seeing the joy and love in your faces. amazing, amazing, amazing! thank you for sharing your love, your journey and the gospel.
